Dallaglio Flintoff Cycle

2022 marks the 10-year anniversary of the London 2012 Summer Olympics and Paralympic and the legacy the event left behind for Great Britain.

On Thursday the 25th of August our London team marked the 10-year anniversary of London 2012 Olympics by taking a group of young people to the iconic Copper Box Arena, Queen Elizabeth Olympic Park. The event was a youth led festival of sport and culture with over 1,000 young people and youth workers in attendance with partner organisations such as StreetGames, London Youth and the Jack Petchey Foundation.

It was an interesting event and got to meet different people from different sport organisations. We worked with different groups of young people during the day from different backgrounds. At the end of the day there was a panel of 3 guest speakers who were: Stef Reid who is a Paralympian, Charlie peters who is a Muay Thai world champion, Nethaneel Mitchell-Blake who is a Olympic sprinter. They all explained their journey into sport and some of the challenges they faces along the route to success which was very inspirational for the young people to hear.

Cycle Slam 2012

During the lead up to the opening ceremony of the London 2012 Olympic and Paralympic Games the Dallaglio Flinoff 2012 Cycle Slam kicked off in true English style on St George’s Day from the ancient birthplace of the Olympic Games, Olympia in Greece. The Cycle Slam 2012 route was set over five stages, covering five countries in 22 days.

The journey took the riders along the Italian riviera, through the towering Swiss Alps, along the famous Paris-Roubaix ride in France, before reaching London’s Olympic Stadium on 18th May.

The finish line is always one of my favourite moments and having it at the London Olympic stadium was very unique. Having the Olympics in the capital where I was born and raised and just to have cycled there from its birthplace in Athens made the games even more special for me and a moment I will never forget.
— Lawrence Dallaglio – Dallaglio RugbyWorks Founder
