Dallaglio RugbyWorks is an intensive, long-term skills development programme based on rugby, through which we aim to get teenagers outside of mainstream education into sustained education, employment or training.

On Friday 3rd November, Dallaglio RugbyWorks hosted its 9th 8Rocks, where Urban met Elegance. Five hundred of our supporters joined us at Battersea Evolution for an evening of exquisite fine dining and world-class entertainment.

Upon arrival, our guests were greeted by a champagne reception provided by Champagne Bollinger in the urban-themed bar area. On display, we had numerous silent auction items that guests could bid on throughout the night. The lots ranged from a pair of running spikes signed by Usain Bolt to a week's stay in Koh Samui. However, we had one extremely special item on offer; a painting of Lawrence Dallaglio by speed artist, Dave Sharp who painted in front of a mesmerised audience in under ten minutes!

Once guests were seated, they were welcomed by the host for the evening, Martin Bayfield who is an original member of the 8Rocks family. Shortly after, Martin introduced Ryoichi Hirano and Claire Calvert from the Royal Ballet who opened the evening entertainment with an enthralling duet, followed by a brilliant performance by a leading Royal Ballet School soloist, Ed Watson. Following the performances, Rachel Roxburgh, Dallaglio RugbyWorks CEO captivated the audience by speaking about the fantastic year Dallaglio RugbyWorks has had and the lives the programme has helped change. Rachel was then joined by two of the young people who have completed the RugbyWorks programme; Raishay and Will discussed so candidly how the programme has impacted their lives and their ambitions for the future.

Following the dessert, our auctioneer, Jonny Gould was introduced to conduct the live auction. We had eight fantastic lots up for grabs including ‘money can’t buy’ items such as a week’s skiing in Verbier with Warren Smith and a wine tasting experience at St Emilion Chateaux with a private flight. With thanks to the huge generosity of all the bidders in the auction, we were able to raise a huge amount of money for our programme.

After Jonny closed the auction, the evening entertainment continued, belting tunes from some of the cast of the original Jersey Boys were performed for our guests, followed by Duke, a beatboxing group who wowed the audience with their performance. However, the night wasn’t over just yet, Seb Fontaine and Goldie Rocks DJ’d at the after party where our supporters danced the night away and closed out a fantastic and very successful 2017 8Rocks.

The generosity amongst the audience was astonishing, we successfully raised over £600,000, all this money will go towards changing the lives of young people who are hardest to reach in society and give them the opportunity they need and the second chance they deserve.

Once again, Dallaglio RugbyWorks would like to thank all those who attended for making the night such an unforgettable one, we hope to make next year’s 10th anniversary of 8Rocks even more special.
