Dallaglio RugbyWorks is an intensive, long-term skills development programme based on rugby, through which we aim to get teenagers outside of mainstream education into sustained education, employment or training.

Our founder, Lawrence Dallaglio OBE, has been speaking to Men's Health about the vital support rugby has been throughout his own personal struggles.

At a time when young people face uncertainty in so many areas of their lives, the Prince’s Trust Youth Index for 2017 has reported a marked drop in levels of emotional wellbeing. Most worryingly, the burden of this struggle is increasingly falling on those from disadvantaged backgrounds. The report cites students' chances of achieving five GCSE results at A*- C and the impact this has on future job prospects as a major source of anxiety and distress.

Our Dallaglio RugbyWorks young people are especially at risk, with only a 1.4% chance of hitting that target. This is not to mention the often traumatic home environment they have already come from. Scars from the past and worries about the future are a heavy burden for them, with our coaches seeing the effect on a daily basis. Their support and mentorship offers a vital outlet that is rarely available in our young people's peer group or at home.

Talking about these issues is key to tackling them and it’s great to see Dallaglio RugbyWorks’ founder Lawrence Dallaglio leading by example. In a recent article in Men’s Health, he discusses the crucial role rugby played in guiding him through his own difficult times.
