Dallaglio RugbyWorks is an intensive, long-term skills development programme based on rugby, through which we aim to get teenagers outside of mainstream education into sustained education, employment or training.
The Dallaglio Foundation's Glorious Golf Event
Last month, trustees and supporters joined Lawrence in the majestic grounds of Archerfield Estate for two days of golf.
Arriving to glorious sunshine, veterans could scarcely believe they were in North Berwick rather than the event’s recent Portuguese home. In Scotland for the first time, it was fitting that Lawrence’s team was joined by Scottish rugby legend, Chris Paterson.
The teams got their first taste of the Fidra Links course on Sunday for a practice round before being hosted in the magnificent Mansion House for the evening. Over dinner, guests sought an early victory by selecting a prospective England autumn international XV, to be matched with Chris Paterson’s version. Mulligan vouchers were also snapped up, with all proceeds going to support the RugbyWorks programme.
Monday’s competition was again blessed by clear skies and autumnal sunshine, perfect conditions for golf. Prizes for the Longest Drive, Closest to the Pin and a year’s worth of bragging rights were up for grabs!
The players returned to the clubhouse and scorecards were collected; the imminent collapse of European Ryder Cup dreams did little to dampen spirits. Tours of the state of the art Nike Performance Centre were enjoyed by many before the guests returned to the Mansion House for the evening.
First, the eagerly anticipated results were announced by CEO, Rachel Roxburgh, and Lawrence in the spectacular surroundings of the Mansion House drawing room. Many congratulations must go not only to the winners, but to every team who made for such a successful tournament.
Dinner brought the guests together in support of the RugbyWorks programme and attention turned to the young people whose lives it touches daily. Following an address from chairman, Matthew Key, it was time for a live auction, blessed both by a fabulous variety of generously donated lots and the inimitable Jonny Gould as auctioneer.
A special thank you to everyone who so generously took part, displaying a remarkable level of support and affinity for RugbyWorks’ mission to transition permanently excluded 14 to 17-year-olds into sustained education, employment and training.
The event was given a true Scottish send off with a whisky tasting delivered by the brilliant Scotch Malt Whisky Society.
We would like to extend considerable thanks to the staff at Archerfield Estate & Links for their wonderful hospitality throughout the event.
