OUR MISSION:
Dallaglio RugbyWorks is an intensive, long-term skills development programme based on rugby, through which we aim to get teenagers outside of mainstream education into sustained education, employment or training.

On Tuesday 14th July we held the inaugural RugbyWorks Awards, hosted by Macquarie Group at their offices in the City of London.

This is a very exciting time for the Foundation having just successfully completed our first academic year of delivery with our own coaching team.

The awards celebrated the successes of the RugbyWorks programme, which exists to have a profound impact on the lives of marginalised young people. Thirty young people from across the project were shortlisted for the 8 awards which recognised, amongst other things, leadership and teamwork.

Lawrence Dallaglio said, "When you've had a tough start in life, uniting through sport can be immensely powerful. It takes real commitment to be part of RugbyWorks and these young people have embraced the programme, shown that commitment pays off and really seen the benefit of the support that coaches and team mates give, which will help them in the future."

The programme works with 14-16 year olds over two years getting them ready for the work place. Based around a curriculum of playing rugby and developing employability skills through classroom based activities, coaches offer stability to often unstable lives and take young people through a three-stage journey of:

Engagement - Minimising the impact of their past
Integration - Making better decisions in the present
Achievement - Planning for a more successful future

The Rt Hon Nicky Morgan, Secretary of State for Education, who attended the awards, said: "These awards are testament to the value of the Dallaglio Foundation's work.

"Rugby can teach important life skills - about how to bounce back from setbacks, to show integrity in victory and defeat, and to respect others, especially your opponents.".

David Fass, CEO of Macquarie Group EMEA, said: "These awards show what a positive impact rugby can have. Amidst all the hard work it is important to pause and say congratulations to the young people. Driven by the passion and dedication of teachers and coaches, this is a truly inspiring programme. Macquarie is proud to be a supporter of the RugbyWorks programme in London."

The Dallaglio Foundation RugbyWorks currently works in 12 London Boroughs, Newcastle, Bristol and the Rhondda Valley with 250 young people, and plans to extend this by the end of 2016. To find out more visit our About Us page.
